ASEFCA's Agenda for Sustainable Development

On the path towards the transition to an increasingly circular economy, adhesives and sealants contribute to product efficiency and circularity, creating a more sustainable society and addressing the current climate crisis. The use of adhesives and sealants in many sectors, such as construction, automotive and power generation, contributes to reducing the carbon footprint of a large number of everyday and advanced products and manufacturing processes, creating a “new way of doing business in the 21st century.

ASEFCA embraces the Sustainable Development Agenda established by FEICA, which aims to:

Deepen and improve the understanding of sustainability in industry, in support of the EU’s goal of being climate neutral by 2050.

Promote best practices: encouraging companies to commit to the vision of sustainable development, sharing best practices and raising awareness.

Encourage the industry to become increasingly involved in the development of adhesive and sealant solutions that enable customers and industries to become more sustainable.

ASEFCA's vision of sustainable development

'Day by day, the adhesives and sealants industry is developing technologies to help a growing world population live a better life and use the planet's resources responsibly and efficiently.'

ASEFCA's sustainability vision is based on the FEICA perspective that focuses on three areas of progress:

Development of energy efficiency solutions.

More efficient use of raw materials.

Safeguarding the environment and people’s health.

The "European Green Deal" and the Circular Economy Action Plan 2.0

The European Green Deal focuses on the importance of circular economy policies as part of Europe’s goal to become a climate-neutral continent by 2050.

See the FEICA position paper edited by ASEFCA on the EU Green Deal and find out how adhesives and sealants help to make it happen. You can also review FEICA’s contribution to the European Commission’s plan to launch an Operation Renewal and discover the key role our industry plays in providing materials, products and technologies that ensure important aspects of circularity and sustainable development in the construction value chain.

In support of the EU’s goal of being climate neutral by 2050 – an economy with zero net greenhouse gas emissions – FEICA members are studying different end-of-life solutions such as recycling processes such as mechanical recycling, physical recycling (dissolution) and chemical recycling (chemolysis, pyrolysis, pyrolysis, gasification, enzymolysis, etc.). Chemical recycling, as a recycling option, could enable circular value chains in industries and help to decouple from fossil raw material sources.

FEICA has published some necessary keys to more efficient and impactful chemicals legislation in Five Guiding Principles in Support of a Successful European Green Deal.
